Pursuing the Art of Photography

The Whaling City Camera Club is a group of people of all ages and photographic abilities who share a common interest and passion for the art of photography. We believe the best method of understanding the art of photography is through education and the sharing of ideas and mentoring between members.

To do this, we offer a range of activities for our members, including:

  • Regular meetings (twice monthly) including workshops and outside speakers

  • Field trips and special events

  • Photo competitions

  • Special club photo exhibitions

  • Opportunities to participate in events and competitions with other clubs and organizations

Guests are welcome at most club meetings and events.

November's meeting, we had Fran McDermott present about Still Life photography and had several stations set up around the room for members to practice still life's. Members can also enter any Still Life photos they have taken in the past or before the due date.

There will be Basic, Intermate and Advanced categories judged that night. There will also be people's choice for club member voting for their favorite images.

Amanda Leeland

"In 2017, I was attending UMass Dartmouth pursuing a bachelor's degree that I felt was going to be my career however, I switched majors to photography. Which I had hoped would change my perspective on what I considered a career.  I had thought photography could be a hobby for me, but instead I turned it into my career choice and couldn't be happier. Being a club member has opened my heart and mind about photography, helping me to learn new skills that I could not have learned in only a classroom. Through the club I have meet many new people that helped build my knowledge on different photography topics. I currently have a passion for portraits, photojournalism and travel photography."

Amanda Leeland is the current president of the Whaling City Camera Club.
