Pursuing the Art of Photography
The Whaling City Camera Club is a group of people of all ages and photographic abilities who share a common interest and passion for the art of photography. We believe the best method of understanding the art of photography is through education and the sharing of ideas and mentoring between members.
To do this, we offer a range of activities for our members, including:
-
Regular meetings (twice monthly) including workshops and outside speakers
-
Field trips and special events
-
Photo competitions
-
Special club photo exhibitions
-
Opportunities to participate in events and competitions with other clubs and organizations
Guests are welcome at most club meetings and events.

About Lisa:
Focusing on the Details: Closeup and Macro Photography
Discover another universe -- the small world. Learn to see, that is notice the "everyday details" around us all the time. This program will introduce the equipment and techniques needed to photograph the beauty and drama of the close-up and macro world. Technical, aesthetic, and creative aspects of Close-up and Macro Photography will be discussed. This program will also talk about some of the tools and techniques used to capture and light small objects: depth of field, focus stacking, focus bracketing, tripods, macro rails, macro lenses, zoom lenses with macro capability, extension tubes, close-up lenses, LED lighting, the AK diffuse, controlling your background, light painting, etc. The technical definition of "macro photography" required that subject be photographed at a 1:1 magnification—in other words, the subject is life-sized in the photo. However, most people use the term “macro photography” to refer to any photograph that depicts a close-up and detailed image of your subject. Once you learn to slow down and notice the details everything becomes your photo studio, backyards, gardens, junkyards, city streets, National Parks, etc. -- macro photography allows you to become delightfully lost in the intimate details of our world.

Amanda Leeland
"In 2017, I was attending UMass Dartmouth pursuing a bachelor's degree that I felt was going to be my career however, I switched majors to photography. Which I had hoped would change my perspective on what I considered a career. I had thought photography could be a hobby for me, but instead I turned it into my career choice and couldn't be happier. Being a club member has opened my heart and mind about photography, helping me to learn new skills that I could not have learned in only a classroom. Through the club I have meet many new people that helped build my knowledge on different photography topics. I currently have a passion for portraits, photojournalism and travel photography."
Amanda Leeland is the current president of the Whaling City Camera Club.
